Being a novice caravaner can be a nerve racking time. I certainly remember our first trip out, it’s etched into my memory, so much so that I see it every time I close my eyes..
Well, it wasn’t that bad, but really, when we picked our first caravan up I was so excited that I got into the caravan and the stays we’re up! What the heck are stays when they’re at home. I didn’t know. However, with that type of experience under my belt I’m able to give information to new starters to help them on their way to years of enjoyment. The only thing that really qualifies me is that if there’s a mistake to make, I’ve probably made it..
Buying the caravan is only the first step. I’m not trying to worry you here, but you’ll need a lot of stuff. You don’t need to spend a fortune and you won’t need all of it straight away. There, you can relax and put your visa card away for a while…
- Caravan 🙂
- Electric hook up cable
- Aquaroll (or similar water butt)
- Waste container (This is where the sink and shower waste goes)
- Gas bottle (these are expensive at first as you hire the bottle as well as fill the bottle with gas. Subsequent refills are just the price of the gas.
- Cutlery
- Crockery (remember to consider the weigh aspect. You might decide on plastic plates for example to keep the weight down and prevent smashed crockery!)
- Bed linen
- Pillows
- Towing mirrors
The list above is pretty much all the essentials. Once you gain confidence and start to go away more and more, you could add any of the following items.
- Awning
- Garden Chairs
- Table
- TV
This list will continue to grow and I’ll add links to other pages on this site that expand on the lists above.
Have a look at our “Top Ten” list, don’t worry, it’s not a Daily Mail click bait story, it’ll be a useful list for you and you’ll get an idea of the price of things..
