FAQ

1. What are Tyron bands, and why should I fit them to my caravan?

Tyron bands are a safety accessory that you attach to the wheels of your caravan or motorhome. These bands aim to hold the tyre in place in the event of a puncture, blow-out or other tyre failure. They help prevent the wheel rim from getting damaged and the tyre from leaving the wheel, which can be quite dangerous if it happens on the road while you’re towing your caravan. Tyron bands are a simple yet highly effective way to protect your caravan and your family while on holiday.

2. Are Tyron bands suitable for all caravan tyres?

Most standard caravan tyres are compatible with Tyron bands. However, you should always check with the manufacturer or a professional for specific advice before buying and installing any safety wheel accessory. They can recommend the best Tyron band size and design for your vehicle and wheel size.

3. How do I fit Tyron bands to my caravan?

Tyron bands are designed to be an easy add-on safety accessory that can be installed onto your existing wheels with minimal fuss. You can request that Tyron bands be fitted when purchasing new caravan tyres or have them attached during a routine caravan service. A professional mechanic or tyre specialist will be able to attach the Tyron bands and inflate the tyres for you, following the manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines.

4. Will fitting Tyron bands affect my caravan insurance?

No. Fitting Tyron bands to your caravan should not affect your insurance. Some insurers may offer discounts or incentives for fitting Tyron bands or other safety accessories (such as flat tyre protection). However, it’s always worth checking with your insurer for specific information about your policy and any changes that may affect your coverage.

5. How do Tyron bands help with safety?

Tyron bands help to maintain safety by keeping the tyre in place in the event of a flat tyre or blow-out. This enables the driver to maintain control of the vehicle and safely pull into a place of safety without losing traction or causing damage to the wheel rim. The bands also act as a second line of defence to prevent the tyre from coming off the wheel entirely, which could result in a more serious accident or breakdown.

6. What is the difference between Tyron bands and run-flat tyres?

Tyron bands are a safety accessory that can be fitted to conventional tyres. They help to keep the tyre on the rim in the event of a puncture. This is an important safety consideration whilst driving at speed. On the other hand, run-flat tyres are specifically manufactured to remain operational despite being punctured. This means that, in many cases, a driver can continue to drive on a punctured run-flat tyre for a short distance. However, once the tyre is severely damaged, both Tyron bands and run-flat tyres will require a change of tyre.

I recently booked my Bailey Unicorn Madrid (2017) in for some snagging works. I requested the retailer fit Tyron Bands while it was with them. They phoned me to advise that the wheel was made to prevent the tyre coming off, and that Bands were really not needed on my Van. Just wondering what your views are ?

Hi, I’m not too sure, sounds a bit like the dealer didn’t want to do the work for some reason. I’d try somewhere else…
