Do you need a caravan leisure battery for caravan ? Our first caravan was a Knaus, German-made and we bought it from Germany. It didn’t come with a battery. Having said that it didn’t come with a microwave either. We don’t wild camp, so we didn’t miss not having a battery in the caravan.

Why do you need a caravan leisure battery for your caravan?
Well, we need one now because we have a motor mover. Our lights can run from 12 volts too, so we can run from the battery power.

Our most recent caravan didn’t come with a battery, even though it has movers and a solar panel, this was a new caravan, so we had to buy one.

If you don’t have a motor mover and you’re always on a site with an electric hook up, you don’t need a battery.

You also need to think about battery care. If you have a solar panel then this is able to charge your battery so it’s always ready for use. However, if your caravan, like so many people, is in storage, a different approach is needed. If may be that it doesn’t matter if your battery goes flat. You can hook the car up and it will charge on the journey to your next campsite. However, if you need power in the battery for, say, a motor mover, or indeed to give power to an alarm you’ll need to maybe rethink things.

If you just need to for a motor mover you could take the battery home with you and charge it at home, or you could invent in portal solar panels that sit inside the caravan and connect to the battery, that way keeping the battery charged. It’s all a personal choice, like with so many things.

However, if you’re in the market for a caravan leisure battery there’s a good selection for you to choose from. As always, look at the reviews to help you decide. Most of the time you get what you pay for.

Just a word of warning before you proceed. We have a Bailey Unicorn IV and the battery sits “under the floor”. Because of this we needed a “low profile” battery. Our existing battery, from our previous caravan, wouldn’t have fitted. Just a little FYI there..

Remember if you have motor movers and E&P levelling etc, you should be a more powerful battery ( the AH number )
