Coachman Laser 650 2021

Whilst looking to replace our current caravan I looked closely at the Coachman Laser 650 2021. But, as with pretty much most caravans, there were some things we weren’t so keen on.

The Coachman Laser 650 2021 has gone back to the rear island bed, the previous model switched to transverse. Now, I don’t know which is the most popular layout of 2021, but I would guess the transverse bed, looking at the number of model layouts made by different manufacturers, this appears popular. However, if you look at the available used stock, it would seem a lot of people are offloading transverse beds. Maybe Coachman has picked up on this with this model.

So let’s start off with the price. £32,205, which, although a lot of money seems to be in keeping with other manufacturers

Coachman Laser 650 2021 Layout

As mentioned earlier, Coachman returns to the rear island bed with the Coachman Laser 650. The bedroom certainly looks like a luxurious place to be, with the two sliding doors. I personally prefer 2 “his and hers” doors as opposed to Bailey’s (and others) door in the centre. The main reason I like the 2 door approach is that you have a nice place for the TV, however, on the downside, it tempts manufacturers to place the sink on the other side of this centre wall, which isn’t my favourite.

Here’s a picture of the layout, you’ll see it’s a pretty typical rear island bed, centre washroom. There are only so many ways you can do this layout.

Ah, on the subject of the sink, Coachman has gone for the dreaded “fruit bowl” sink in the washroom. Why? Whenever I see a “fruit bowl sink” it just does not scream quality. It screams horrible plastic sink. I know they try to get things as light as possible, but really I can’t get on with these sinks at all!

The photo of the sink below is not the Coachman Laser 650 2021, it’s actually taken from the 875, but you get the idea. I have to say it does look good in photos. We found that this type of sink is actually difficult to wash your wash in. In fairness, the Coachman sink might be better, more usable than the one in our Bailey – I’ve not used it.

Nice Features

The Coachman Laser 650 2021 does boast some nice features, the kitchen worktop is Corian, now, is there any need for a Corian worktop in a caravan, well, no, but it does exude style. That’s “Corian” by the way, not Korean, how dare you…

The external grey sides aren’t for everyone, they remind me of a Buccaneer personally.

The two front lockers certainly give the Coachman Laser 650 2021 a distinctive look and the new Coachman badge is surely a sight to behold. Isn’t it?

A really nice touch is that it comes with Whale Easi Slide external sockets for the BBQ point, plug socket and water in. I think these are a great addition and have upgraded my own caravan to use these. They just work much better than the flap up style. And really, when you look at the price, it’s little “upgrades” like this that make all the difference for me personally.

Conclusions

For me personally, the fruit bowl sink and grey sides signal style over substance, but it does look a really nice caravan. I still believe Coachman are one of the most aspirational caravans available. If money were no object, would I buy one? Well, probably yes. It’s certainly the layout we currently prefer, this will obviously change by 2024, but you can’t keep changing caravans, can you?
